Review the criteria for each first-generation scholarship before completing The College First Generation Scholarships application to ensure you meet requirements. Applicants will be considered for all scholarships in the pool for which they are eligible.
General Criteria for The College First-Generation Scholarships
- Admitted to and enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, ASU at the Tempe campus during the term(s) awarded.
- Students must be first-generation college students (neither parent earned a four-year college/university degree).
- Full-time enrollment (12 credit hours) during the semester you receive the scholarship. If you do not maintain full-time enrollment, your scholarship may be cancelled.
- Financial need is a selection factor or required, established by completion of the FAFSA.
The College First-Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
- Arizona residency required.
The College Alumni First-Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
- Academic level must be at least sophomore standing.
- Preference given to Arizona residents.
- Students must demonstrate a strong work ethic and volunteer spirit through their essay responses.
Dean’s Advancement Council First-Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
- Arizona residency required.
Al and Viola Madrid Endowed Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
- No residency requirement.
- Academic level must be freshman standing only.
- Recipients must demonstrate leadership skills.
- Letter of recommendation required.
Helen and Ong C. Hing Family First Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
- Pursuing an academic degree in the humanities or the social sciences.
- Academic level must be at least sophomore standing.
- Arizona residency required.
McKee Family Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Preference for students who graduated from South Mountain High School or Central High School or graduated from South Mountain Community College or Phoenix College.
- Preference for recipients completing their junior year (sophomore at time of application).
- Preference for students in the following majors: African and African American studies, American Indian studies, justice studies, religious studies, transborder Chicana/o and Latina/o studies and women and gender studies.
- Letter of recommendation required.
- Recipients must provide evidence of commitment to the community through service and a personal statement that reflects both academic and personal goals.
John Rockefeller First-Generation Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- No GPA requirement for incoming freshmen.
- Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA for current ASU students and incoming transfer students.
- Arizona or California resident.
- Preference for first year students (freshmen and first year transfer students).
Marco Fierro Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- No additional criteria beyond general criteria.
Greg and Traci Dolan Scholarship - Additional Criteria
- Minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA (high school, community college or ASU).
