After graduating in 2024 from the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership, Emily Stabilito launched her career at a Chicago-based creative agency. But when she realized her interests were pulling her in a different direction, she wasn’t afraid to change course.
Now pursuing a master’s degree in sports journalism at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Stabilito reflects on how the writing, communication and critical thinking skills she developed as an undergrad in The College continue to shape her work in a new field.
She shares how experiences beyond the classroom helped her explore her interests, build new skills and discover what she wanted from her career. Here's her advice for students and young alumni on embracing opportunities, trusting when it’s time for a change and finding a path that works for you.

Kristen Semedo graduated in 2024 with a film and media studies degree, which she completed online through the Department of English at Arizona State University. Today, she is an editor for the NoSleep podcast as well as a writer and director of short films.
