The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Office of Student and Academic Programs assists units with curriculum development for new degree programs, minors, certificates and concentrations. The office also coordinates the activities of the college’s Curriculum Committee and serves as a liaison between the Dean’s Office and the Office of the Provost.

Follow the steps below to request new programs or change existing programs according to our standards.
Step 1
Academic Plan
Requests for new degrees, minors, certificates or concentrations
Prior to the development of a complete proposal for the year, the Arizona Board of Regents requires each university to submit an Academic Plan. The plan must contain all proposed new degree programs, minors, certificates and concentrations as well as anticipated organizational changes the university intends to develop during the ensuing year.
The submission deadline for the Academic Plan is in September of each year.
Propose curricular changes
- Submit a pre-approval request on the Academic Plan through Curriculum ChangeMaker.
- Once the Provost’s Office approves a unit’s proposal in writing, the unit must complete the appropriate proposal template for the internal ASU proposal development and review process

CLAS Curriculum Committee
Requests for new courses, course modifications, changes to existing programs
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Curriculum Committee considers and makes recommendations to the Senate. Then, the committee reports to the Dean on all proposals involving curricular changes within the college, including the consideration of all undergraduate and graduate programs.

Request a new course
To regularize a course that has been taught under an omnibus topic at least twice or to propose a new course that is required for a new degree program, minor, certificate or concentration, follow this procedure:
- Complete and submit a “new course form” through Curriculum ChangeMaker.
Note: Units must submit a complete syllabus with each proposal.
Make course modifications
Course modifications include changing the title, description, prefix or semester hours, adding an offering or deleting an entire course. To modify an existing course, follow this procedure:
- Submit a “modify course form” request through Curriculum ChangeMaker.
Change existing requirements for undergraduate programs
To change an existing degree, minor, concentration or certificate, follow this procedure:
- Submit a memorandum addressed to the CLAS Curriculum Committee with the rationale for the change(s) and the effective date.
