Program Description

Degree Awarded: MAS Geographic Education

The MAS program in geographic education provides teachers with the opportunity to obtain specialized experience in geographic pedagogy. The degree program is intended for K-12 teachers and is appropriate for both elementary and secondary school teachers.

  • 30 credit hours and an applied project

Required Core (3 credit hours)
COE 501 Introduction to Research and Evaluation in Education (3)

Geography Coursework (24 credit hours)

Culminating Experience (3 credit hours)
DCI 593 Applied Project (3) or
SED 593 Applied Project (3)

Additional Curriculum Information
Students should see the academic unit for an approved course list.

Students are required to have access to a computer with an Internet connection and the capability to view video and animated files with sound, access to email, and access to a word processing program.


Admission Requirements

Applicants must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Applicants are eligible to apply to the program if they have earned a bachelor's degree in education, geography or related area from a regionally accredited institution.

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's degree program, or applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in an applicable master's degree program.

All applicants must submit:

  1. graduate admission application and application fee
  2. official transcripts
  3. personal statement
  4. resume
  5. three letters of recommendation
  6. proof of English proficiency

Additional Application Information
An applicant whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency regardless of their current residency.

Letters of recommendation must be from three people who can attest to the applicant's academic and professional achievements. One letter must be from a former instructor.
