Robert Kestelik

  • Robert J. Kestelik graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State University in 1994 with a BA degree in Asian Languages – Japanese and a Certificate in Asian Studies.  While at ASU, Bob was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and Vice President of the Interfraternity Council.  He also participated in the Study Abroad Program in Japan for two years at Kansai Gaidai University and Nanzan University studying 20th Century Japanese Literature.

After graduating from ASU, Bob then attended law school at Washington University in St. Louis and interned at the United States Senate.  He worked in several international law firms in Texas prior joining Mattel as Assistant General Counsel serving as the primary in-house attorney responsible for global product regulatory, general regulatory, global supply chain, and global commercial operations.  Bob provided legal support to Mattel's worldwide operations and marketing & sales subsidiaries in dozens of countries including China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Russia. His practice areas include cross-border transactions, labor & employment, litigation, regulatory & compliance and internal investigations

Bob remained a loyal Sun Devil thought out his life.  For many years he had season football tickets and would fly from LA to Phoenix for games and would also attend many away games.  Bob was also a very generous philanthropic supporter to ASU, primarily by establishing and endowing the Robert J. Kestelik LGBT Leadership Scholarship in the School of International Letters and Cultures.  In establishing the scholarship, he stated: “I grew up in a conservative Catholic family that accepted me for who I am. But I also realize that many students who identify as LGBTQIA may not have the same level of familial support. I want to help students who don’t have that support, and I want them to know that the LGBTQIA community does support them!”  He was very proud of his Slovenian heritage and hosted his 49th birthday celebration there in June 2019 with many family and friends in attendance.  Bob was a true character and lived life to the fullest but sadly passed away in August 2019.
